Steely McGnome Predicts: Steelers vs Browns take 2
I didn't feel like searching for another picture of McCoy, so I'm re-using this one.
Big, big game for the Steelers, a win and they clinch the division and the #2 seed. A loss and that all goes away with a Ratbirds win. Of course the Ratbirds lose and the Steelers still get all of that.
Still, can't worry about another team. The Steelers need to get the job done, and I think they will.

Crushed - Steelers vs Panthers Recap
Yeah, I know it was a Thursday night game and this awesome recap is only coming out like 4 days later. But you'll deal.
That was an ass-whoopin' the Panthers got. Although on the Panthers first drive for a little bit it seemed like the Steelers forgot they could tackle and the Panthers thought they could actually play offense. Not so.
We need to see more of those passes to Mike Wallace. That was bad-ass.
Look. Hines Ward has been with the Steelers for 12 years, his production is going to drop off. And it still pisses me off that Santonio Holmes just couldn't lay off the blunts. Holmes was, in my mind, going to take over for Ward. He was filling in nicely, but the dude just had to keep getting high and he got caught, then sent packing.
Oh well, I'm becoming more and more impressed with Sanders and Brown. Steelers have a lot of options for catching the ball. And those guys all seem better than Butterfingers Nate Washington.
I'm happy that the Steelers need to go out and play this weekend to win the division, instead of having it locked up already. Although another part of me would like if they had that 2nd seed locked up already. That week off is going to help the Steelers heal a little.
That's it for my awesome recap.

Steely McGnome Predicts: Steelers vs Panthers
Thursday night game this week. I don't care what you or the NFL players think. I love Thursday Night Games, and Saturday night games too. More NFL games on TV is a good thing and you know it.
The Panthers come up to Pittsburgh to take on the Steelers. Big game for the Steelers, they need to win their remaining two games to keep that division lead and the #2 seed for the playoffs. Can't overlook a team with nothing to lose. I'm thinking the Panthers will put up a good fight, I hope I'm wrong about that.

Close Game, with a crappy finish - Steelers vs Jets recap
Close NFL games come down to big plays and mistakes. The Steelers did not make any real big game changing plays and they made all the mistakes. Allowing the Jets opening kickoff return was a big breakdown, actually the special teams play of the Steelers were kind of crap all day. The Jets got really good field position out of their returners yesterday, and on punts they pinned the Steelers back inside the 5 several times. Those are hard to overcome, and besides the safety, the Steelers did. Then that safety late in the game, which made the Steelers need a touchdown instead of a field goal.
I actually thought the Steelers played well on Offense yesterday. The offense seemed to be clicking a little better than the previous weeks, they actually scored some touchdowns. The defense, well, they played ok, that's below well. Really need to get pressure on the QB, that seemingly wasn't there yesterday. I don't know, seems like the Steelers held back on defense, just like they did against the Patriots. Maybe thinking they'll see them again in the playoffs and did not want to tip their hand?? Seems dumb to me, but you know how those AFC East teams like to video tape everything.
I do not like complaining about the refs, but I'm going to. If you're going to call defensive holding when a jersey gets grabbed, you need to call that every time. There were quite a few plays where the Jets DBs grabbed the jersey of the Steelers receivers. Plus, I'm sick of the non-hold calls on the Steelers linebackers, those are obvious holds and the head referee is right there. With that said, those non-calls DID NOT cost the Steelers the game, they had a chance at the end of regulation to win that game and came up short. Not even going to say if any of those holds had been called if the outcome would have been different. You can't look at a game like that, but the NFL needs to make referees full-time employees (I don't think they are).
On to Thursday, Steelers are already in the playoffs. Win out for the number 2 seed and the division. Let's go Steelers!

Steely McGnome Predicts: Steelers vs the Jets
The Jets make a visit to Pittsburgh this Sunday to take on the Steelers. The Jets were once poised to be the number 1 seed and led their division, but have since shown their true colors. The Steelers need to get some offensive touchdowns, the defense can't score two TDs every week, that would be nice though.

Pick 6 - Steelers vs Bengals take 2 recap
I wonder what Tomlin said to make him laugh so hard?
Defense wins championship. Right now the Steelers defense is hitting on all cylinders, and it's coming at a great time. Especially with the offensive line being so banged up. The last time I saw a carousel of offensive lineman was the 6-10 Tommy Maddox led Steelers. That was a bad year, but it led to good things. The drafting of Ben Roethlisberger.
Back to the game recap. Final Score 23-7. My prediction 31-9. On the right track, I figured the last game was kind of a fluke with the Bengals scoring like that in 4th quarter. Although, I kept feeling like the Bengals were going to make it a closer game near the end of the game, but the last INT by Troy made that go away...until he tossed the ball back instead of just downing the ball. Bonehead move for sure, but he also turned the game the Steelers way with his pick 6 of Palmer. The Woodley pick 6 was great too, gotta love when the defense scores touchdowns.
The Steelers offense just can't seem to get into the end zone as of late. Not sure what the deal is, and it's really annoying. FGs are great, but they're not going to win you games against good teams. I know the Steelers offense out scored the Bengals offense 9-7, but that's just not good enough. I know that line is banged up and that's part of the issue. Ben not having enough time to go through his reads before someone is coming after him is never helping in the production of Touchdowns.
Seriously. The frickin' commentators sucked. They would have liked you to think that the Bengals had the game wrapped up in the 1st quarter when their offense actually produced. Dan Dierdork and Greg Bumble sucked it up. I'm normally not opposed to Greg, but he was getting on my nerves yesterday. I never liked Dierdork, guy was a lineman. You blocked the guy in front of you, I don't really care about your thoughts on anything other than the offensive line. Please, retire.
Oh, and don't think I forgot about you Refs. YOU SUCK. How can you not call that hit on the head of Ben? I saw a game earlier this season where a defender barely brushed Tom Brady's helmet, Brady was all up in the Ref and got a flag on flag on the defender. Ben got swatted in the head, again, and no flag. Then, before the half on a 3rd and goal, there was a late hit. Again no flag, but multiple times the James Harrison hit a QB with the legal time and got flagged. Get it right NFL, make your refs full-time. Make them watch film on legal and illegal hits. This non-sense has to end.

Steely McGnome Predicts: Steelers vs Bengals take 2
Steelers take on the Bengals for the second time this weekend. Last game the Steelers had a big lead that they decided to blow in the 4th quarter and were very close to losing. But the Defense stepped up and did their job.
Could this be the last time Palmer faces the Steelers in a Bengals uniform? I hope so, go to the UFL loser.

Damn, that was a game - Steelers vs Ravens recap
Damn. When I think of a good NFL game, this game between the Steelers vs Ravens is what I think of. Hard hitting, tough defense, last minute heroics.
Would be great if the NFL officials could actually get their damn act together. Two illegal hits and no flags, how does that happen these days. Since they flag legal hits half the time. Good to know they at least fined the Ravens for those hits. Hines Ward is right, someone is going to lose a game in the playoffs because the Refs can't get it right.
Ben really had to get use to his foot being in that shoe boot, and it showed in the first half. The announcers wouldn't let you forgot about it either, god I hate Chris Collinsworth. I swear they had one camera guy just focusing on Ben's foot. So annoying. Ben got on the right path in the second half, plus it helped his receivers started catching the ball on 3rd down.
At first it looked like the defense was going to let the Ravens pass all over them. But, again they showed up and started shutting them down. Frickin McFadden, better get it together you've been taking a beating this season. Troy came up big in another game against the Ravens, seems like he always makes a difference in those types of games. Gotta say, it was nice to have Keisel back, although the Defensive line has been holding it's own with Aaron Smith and Keisel out. Ziggy Hood was a good choice.
As much as I hate the Ravens, I look forward to the games between these two teams.

So this is OK by the NFL
So when Quarterback in the NFL is hit in the NFL, it's not ok. You get fines and flags.
BUT.
When a QB is on the ground, it's OK to still bend and twist him.
Tell me how that is right?

A win is a win - Steelers vs Bill recap
Well, well, well. The Steelers let the Bills stay in the game and somehow overcame a certain loss in Buffalo this past Sunday.
There's a reason why you can't say a game is over by halftime, since the Steelers dominated the Bills in the first half and let them hang around, then comeback and go into overtime. Had it not been a drop by Stevie Johnson the Steelers would have lost. BUT, they didn't, it's another win for the Steelers.
Worry about celebrating after you catch the ball Stevie, not as the ball is floating into your arms. Fail.
There was a time I wished every game was like last week against the Raiders. 35-3 blowout. Not anymore, a lot of games like that don't prepare you for the post-season. They just let you waltz into the post-season then get blown out by a team that hit their stride while you were "resting". Games like this can define a season, good or bad.
I had a bad feeling this game was going to go down like it did. The Steelers dominated and were only up by 13 at the half. That's never good with any team. I would have felt better had the score been 21-0 going into the second half, but it wasn't. The Bills just aren't there yet, I mean they've been rebuilding since the late 90's right? That's starting to get Detroit bad.
Steelers win, onto the Ratbirds next week.
I suck at recaps.

Steelers vs Raiders Recap
That image says it all about the Raiders this past Sunday. Hopes crushed. The Steelers shut you down on Sunday and that's putting it nicely.
I had to watch this game online, since the stupid Ravens were on the local CBS this week. Luckily I found something worthwhile to watch. The Raiders had no answers to the Steelers on all aspects of the game. So Oakland, you're not quite there, maybe if you draft a franchise QB to groom instead of picking up free agent after free agent for the position. So, maybe in a few years the Raiders may actually be good. (Well, once Al Davis dies).
All those penalties sucked balls, but I'm not getting into that, there are plenty of others talking about that. Stupid Ginger Commissioner.
The running game from the Steelers lacked a little. The numbers lie, not saying I won't take them, but they lie. Ben got a lot of those yards on 3 rushes, they were passing plays with the Raiders dropping seemingly everyone back and there were clear lanes for Ben to run. Other than that the Raiders kind of shut down Mendenhall. NEED A REAL FULLBACK.
Oh, and the final score was 35-3. This has been the closest prediction in a long time for Steely McGnome.
Gobble Gobble bitch.

Missed Opportunities - Steelers vs Patriots recap
Seriously.
I hate the Patriots, I just don't think they're that good. Not like Brady has ever led his team down the field in a Super Bowl for a touchdown to win the game. Only field goals. That doesn't impress me and it never will. Yeah sure, he's won 3. Big whoop!
At least this loss was during the regular season and not the post season. The loss would have hurt more.
Not sure what is up with the Steelers defense. I thought for sure with the addition of Bryant McFadden the secondary was going to go back to being somewhat dominant, but they are sucking it up. The defensive line and linebackers aren't getting dick for pressure. This straight on rushing the line DOES NOT WORK! I don't know why they continued to do that play after play. Bring some damn pressure, it worked when you did.
The running game never really got going, but it could have been effective. But one thing the offense really needs, a damn fullback. That singleback shit pisses me off to no end.
Gotta catch the ball when it hits you in the hands, especially in the end zone. Those were missed opportunities to keep the game close and get the momentum. That just never happened until the 4th quarter and the defense couldn't stop the Patriots to keep the game close. Pretty much ending the game late in the 4th quarter. Not the end of the 3rd quarter like the announcers made it seem like.
Gawd I hate Chris Collinsworth, he was downing Brady's cock all night it was horrible to listen to.
That's it. Losses suck. Losses to the Patriots/Ravens suck even more.

Steelers vs Bengals recap
The hell. Too damn hard to find a picture of the game on the internet. Damn NFL locking down their images or something. Guess I could have taken more than 2 minutes to look, but I shouldn't have to. I SHOULD have snapped a picture of one of Chad Oinchocinco's temper tantrums. That was great to watch. Man he sucks. The Steelers expose him for the phony that he is. Too bad the same can't be said about T.O.
I know T.O. runs his mouth and can have a bad attitude, but he can produce. He did last night that's for damn sure, could you cover the guy maybe?
The game looked like a blowout by the Steelers early on, then the o-line started going down. I thought for sure the Bungs would take advantage, but that make-shift line did the job. I didn't get some of the three straight runs that ended with a punt. I know you want to establish the run, but you have Ben as your QB now, let him pass for the 1st down ESPECIALLY if you're going to run the ball in singleback formation. If you're not even going to put a "fullback" in the backfield. Just pass on 3rd and short. No fullback and a charging D, you'll probably never convert. I miss Dan Kreider sometimes.
That damn comeback took a few years off my life, and Skippy IF the Steelers offer you a new contract after this season and it's not the amount of money you want and you bitch. Have fun kicking in the UFL.

Steely McGnome Recaps Steelers vs Saints
Just what you needed, some other a-hole recapping a game. I try to do this every week but it just doesn't always happen. I think I've done one recap so far this year. Whatever, like 1 person might read this.
Well kids, Steely McGnome was WAY off on the final score. Saints won 20-10, bastards.
I wouldn't look too much into the Saints as being all that great this year (so far). I've seen this before where the Super Bowl champions go into the season and lose to really crappy teams, then beat good teams only to not make the playoffs because of injuries and just really shitty play down the stretch. Actually, I've seen it twice in recent years. Both years after the Steelers won the Super Bowl.
Steelers had their chances to take this game and it just didn't happen. Plus the Saints defense played really well despite injuries, can't take that away from them at all.
It's easy to point the finger at the play calling at times, looking at you Arians, but Ben needs to recognize those blitzes and get the necessary protection and routes to his receivers before the snap. If he wants to be the man, he's got to act like it. And I'm sick of hearing about the rust that Ben has from missing 4 games. I bet it was there the 1st week, not like he was injured and out an entire year, yeah every game he'll be rusty. Not the case, get over it announcers, call the game and not everything else.
I also read somewhere complaining about Antwaan Randle El's punt returning production. Yes, it's true, he's not getting the return yards, BUT he's back there on a short field. Most of the time he's fielding punts when the opposing team is in between 40 yard lines. Meaning that there will be a swarm of defenders by the time the ball arrives. Who do you want back there, a rookie who thinks he can break away from those defenders, but in reality gets knocked for a loss or worse muffs the punt. Or do you want the veteran and can recognize when to call a fair catch to prevent the ball being downed inside the ten or fielding a punt and getting a few more yards. Yes Sanders had a long punt return, but that's when the Saints were punting from their 20, lots of room to run. I'd say the Steelers are making the right choices in the return game.
The Steelers defense is unfortunately breaking at this point, but I'm not blaming them. The D has been put into too many situations where they're excepted to stop a team with a short field within minutes of each other. Defenses are going to break when you keep giving an offense multiple times to try and score.
Losses suck, but they happen. It's not the end of the world.

Steelers - Browns Recap
Well, I didn't get to watch it so I don't really have a recap of the game. I just got to "watch" it on NFL.com, watching the drive chart. Yay fun and I can't listen to that shit on the radio, it's way too annoying, I think 95% of the announcers suck. Plus half the time the announcers on the radio think I'm actually watching the game they tell me something about the players life I could really care less about.
Stupid Ravens being on TV this past week, no one likes them in this area. Move to LA.
All I really wanted to do was post the picture on my blog, it's priceless. Image swiped from One for the Other Thumb.

Steelers-Falcons Game Recap
Yeah, I'm like a day late but you know what? Fuck it, I don't care and you shouldn't either.
Here we go:
Steelers fucking won, what do you really want? All I know is a win > tie > loss.
Jim Mora sucks at announcing. Fox sucks at showing me game updates, there's like some shitty little box up in the corner and no stats, I need to see if my fantasy guys are doing well and if they are should I check out yahoo and see how much I'm kicking ass or not. So happy the Steelers are only on Fox like twice a year.
You want a real game recap, go to One for the Other Thumb or Pittsburgh Area Sports and Mini Ponies.

Dennis Dixon
As much as I liked Bryon Leftwich when he was the backup during the 2008 season, I don't like him there now. Sure he's a good QB, when healthy. But I always thought the Steelers drafted Dennis Dixon to be Ben's backup once Batch was done, so when Ben gets suspended for 4 or 6 games I thought for sure Dixon would get some of those starts to help learn the offense more. Since that game he started against Baltimore started out great, but once the Ravens figured out the 10 plays that he knew it was over for Dixon. Then the Steelers went out and got Leftwich, which just doesn't make sense to me once Ben comes back from his suspension. Who are you going to cut/trade Pittsburgh?
Oh, and I don't like that he took the number 10 as a jersey number. ugh.

Flying Woodley is coming for YOU!
Get ready kids. In a few short weeks, Steely McGnome will be back to his predicting ways and with the help of flying Woodley, hopefully I'll get back to my spot on predicting.
Remember that time I actually got it right.
That was awesome.

Well, well, well. Look who's back
That wasn't a surprise at all.
I knew his dumb ass would be back for another season and I won't believe he's done until he doesn't play at all next season.
I don't wish injuries on NFL players, except him who should not be named (except in the tags). Break a leg Bert. seriously.

TO and Oincho
TO and Oincho will no doubt be a great duo in the NFL for years to come...
Oh wait, probably not. Maybe for one season, but it will be the season that's the greatest for the Bungles since TO is the missing piece to their championship woes.
No, he's not. I'm not going to doubt his athleticism or that he's a very good WR. But to think that he's the piece you've been waiting for is ridiculous. I always thought that Johnson, Houshmandlakczahod, and Henry were a dangerous group of receivers and the bungs wasted that. Plus it takes more than just adding 1 person to your offense, unless it's a great QB on an already decent offense, to get you to the promise land.
Have fun Bengal fans, all you're going to get this year is a bunch of shenanigans from two WR who only care about themselves.
