Playoff Bound

I really wanted to make my own, but meh.

Not going to lie, I had my doubts about this team time and again. There were definitely games that made me think what the hell was going on and it seemed like another wasted opportunity to get Ben back to the playoffs. Good thing I was wrong. The Steelers have come together on all fronts the past several weeks. Yeah, the defense has given up some yards, but keeping the Chiefs out of the endzone was a big answer to the haters (including myself here) of that defense. The past few weeks the opposing defense has keyed on Bell. Good thing the Steelers offense is full of weapons. You can stop one, but not them all.

Onto the last week of the 2014 NFL season and a shot at the AFC North Title.

Here we go.

Sunshine and Rainbows

Not going to lie, I was nervous the entire second half until . Ben hit Heath for the final 1st down.

But I will say, the Steelers offense and defense made the plays when they had to and that's hard to complain about. Which I'm not this week. Surprise.

Two more games. The Steelers are in the drivers seat for the AFC North.

That's all I got.

I thought I wasn't going to be this lazy

I'm even re-using old images at this point. I was hoping to at least blog a re-cap each week, but that's been far and few between.

I'll do my best to finish out the season, 3 recaps. Can I do it? Maybe. Who knows? I don't even know.

I'm inconsistent, just like the Steelers.

Steelers can't get shut out by the NFC South. They just can't!

Where has this offense been?

Over the past few weeks you could hear the collective groans of the Steelers fan base, as the Steelers continued to struggle on offense and defense. Myself included, and after yesterdays game, those groans were well warranted.

What the offense did yesterday was unbelievable, and makes you wonder where has it been all season? Even if the offense performed at half of hat capacity I would be extremely happy.

Even the defense was doing a really a good job of getting pressure on the Quarterback. Give some credit to Luck for standing in there and taking those hits. A lesser QB would have crumbled.

I'm not taking anything away from the performance of Ben Roethlisberger, he had one of the best games ever. And hopefully he continues this level of play for the rest of the season. I see the potential of this team and that's why it's frustrating when they do not live up to it.

Game on.

Well, that was interesting

Last night it seemed as if the Steelers were going to continue on in their funk. Getting run over on offense and having a defense that looked like the squad getting cut at the end of preseason.

Then the Steelers got a Field goal, then some touchdowns right before halftime. What a crazy turn of events. The defense got some pressure and more importantly. Turnovers. In good field position. And the offense converted those turnovers to touchdowns.

Now if the Steelers played like this every week, maybe the fans wouldn't be so nit picky.

Now the last 3 minutes of the game almost gave me a heart attack, since the defense turned into a pumpkin let the Texans march down the field and get a TD late. Luckily the hands team came through and sealed the deal.

THIS needs to continue the rest of the season, the playing to their potential and not like crap.

LeBeau is still on my hot seat though. He has been and will be no matter what. All things must end.

Fire Everyone.

I really thought after that Carolina game the Steelers were on pace for a decent run.

But...

After the stinker yesterday I think we may be looking to another shitty season.

Wasting your franchise Quarterback  for yet another season. Finally give the guy some options on offense but the defense is failing yet again. Dick Lebeau has been great but this is a what have you done for me lately kind of league. And Lebeau and the Steelers defense. Not a whole hell of a lot. He should have retired a few seasons ago. Time for a new scheme. Time for a fresh start on defense too bad we are already into this season. Regardless of whether things get turned around on D, I'm on the Lebeau to go train. And possibly Tomlin if the lawlessness of the Steelers team continues, one of the most undisciplined Steelers teams I've ever seen.

Ryan Shazier Living Up To The Billing Early On

"In the NFL, many people like to analyze things earlier then they probably should. After all, people need something to talk about in between games. It is still very early in the year, but it looks like Ryan Shazier is living up to the billing. The first-round draft pick for the Pittsburgh Steelers is one of the best linebackers in the rookie class so far, and he does not seem to be slowing down anytime soon.

The biggest take away from Shazier’s play so far has been his activity every single play. He has a total of 17 tackles on the year so far, and it is clear that he is one of the most athletic players at his position. If he can continue to show a lot of range, he’s going to finish with some pretty solid numbers in his very 1st year.

Pittsburgh admittedly has a pretty old defense for the most part. They are trying to slowly change that, especially when you consider that it might be holding them back a little bit. Shazier could turn into one of the new faces of the franchise as the team gets back to its roots.

While he has been able to mostly have success early on in his career, there are some people who are a little bit critical of his inability to hold his own against bigger blockers so far. That is something that might just take some getting used to since he is still new to the NFL. He is also going to put on some additional muscle as he continues to age, so that is not really a long-term concern.

Overall, the only other inside linebacker in the rookie class who is coming close to his production is CJ Mosley for the Ravens. There are a few outside linebackers, most notably Anthony Barr and Khalil Mack, who are making some strong contributions in fantasy football to their defenses as well. This is a pretty good class at this position, but there might not be a better overall linebacker new to the league this year than Ryan Shazier."

I did not write this, but I agree with it totally! Shazier is going to be a beast.

I'm Back

Like the phoenix rising from the ashes, Steely McGnome has returned.

Just in time to comment on the stinker that was the Buccaneers vs Steelers game.

Gross.

I mean, honestly, way to waste your franchise Quarterback the past few seasons with some crap ass defenses. Yeah, it's the fault of the defense plain and simple. (penalties too, but I'm sticking to my guns on this). ZERO PRESSURE ON GLEENON! The hell. Just a week before they put the squeeze on Newton and couldn't get diddly squat on Gleenon. I know, 3 starters out but you put guys in a back up roll so because you think they could start if given the chance.

Get it together Pittsburgh!

Steely's Last Stand

So earlier this I decided to retire this blog and then I kind of trailed off during the season. Showing that the retirement was the right choice. I'm just not into doing the predictions or my half-assed recaps. I'm really shifting my focus to just doing my t-shirts. www.getfreshdesigns.net

That being said, I have a few things to say about the state of the NFL.

You're constant rule changes suck and the fact that turnovers of certain kinds are not reviewable, just dumb.

Roger Goodell needs to go. Plain and simple. This Europe crap, expanding the playoffs, expanding the regular season, wanting to take away the extra point, moving the draft to mid-May, NO END OF THE YEAR SATURDAY GAMES!!!! He's taking the NFL into NASCAR territory, I no longer follow NASCAR (haven't in years) but they change how they crown a champion seemingly every year now. Do you want the NFL to be like NASCAR??? GET RID OF THE COMMISH!!!

I hope Peyton loses in epic fashion in the Super Bowl. Just retire.

I love the Richard Sherman rant at the end of the NFC Title game, it was great. Something the rival team players should be doing. Every fan talks that way about the opposing team, so happy a player did. The outrage from that was ridiculous. We all wanted that and you know it.

That's it for now. If I have any other NFL related rants they will be on my main blog - http://getfreshdesigns.blogspot.com/

Look at that, two links in there. Go me.

Oh, and if you're reading this and have a burning desire to keep this blog going I will have no problem making you an author on this site. I will retain the Admin rights since there's always a chance I may come out of retirement...

never know.

Later.
