Biggity Bam! Steelers vs Jets Recap

Ouch, looks like that hurt there Sanchez, not as bad as your stat line though 10 for 27, 138 yards 1 TD.

Jets came out early and showed some spark, but the Steelers D really stepped up and eventually shut the Jets down. And some help with Sanchez being the horrible QB that he has come to show us from last season. Maybe he'll be a good backup for the Jets.

Issac Redman needs to just run straight, nothing fancy for that guy. When he runs right up the middle the guy is a beast, but when he tries to do the fancy footwork forget it. Ben was on point, being the QB he's suppose to be.

Trying to do a recap almost 24 hours after a game just doesn't work for me, you get what you get and no funny photoshops!

Steely McGnome Predicts: Steelers vs Jets

Sanchez had a good game against the Bills and now the Jets are awesome or something. Eat a dick Tebow.

Steelers 34

Jets 13

Jergnome says:

The Steelers must play well on all 3 sides of the ball, offense, defense, and specials.

If the Steelers control the clock and keep the Jets out of the endzone, they're sure to win.

Oh snap - Steelers vs Broncos Recap

Not the best way you want to start an NFL season, but it's week 1 I kind of hope my team has a few issues to overcome. Makes them stronger down the road.

Steelers 19

Broncos 31

I'll give credit where credit is due. Peyton looked good last night. I thought he would have been way off coming into week 1, but I was wrong. To be honest, he's got to be on early in the season. Since he's not playing in a dome anymore, let's see how he does in a few months.

As for the Steelers. I don't get why the defensive scheme seemingly doesn't change at all when the opposing offense is picking them apart. The Broncos go into no huddle and just start moving down the field. At some point, oh I don't know when they get to the 50 yard line, you know...maybe call a timeout...give your guys some rest...substitute some players...call different plays...maybe? I love Dick Lebeau, but I'm getting ready for his retirement. Sorry. He's been great, but you know, time to move on.

There I said it.

As for the offense, gotta score touchdowns not kick field goals. Like you didn't know that already. I like Dwyer, guy is a powerful runner. Get him more carries. Redman needs to stop that spinning, he's not fast enough to pull that off, just run up the field man. Other than that, I feel they played well for week one, really wish the offensive line could just not get hurt multiple times in one game for a change.

Steely McGnome Predicts: Broncos vs Steelers

Welcome back Pey Pey, looks like your neck is barely hanging on.

Steelers 27

Broncos 18

And new to the blog this year! Jergnome Bettis, former...uh...Steelers Great gives his points to the game!!

Jergnome says:

The Steelers need to control the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball.

And if the Steelers offense scores more points than what the defense allows, they're sure to win.

Charlie Batch is still on the Team???

37 year old, to be 38 this NFL season, Charlie Batch is still a member of the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Sorry, kids. He's been a good back-up but this is a poor move by the Steelers. No idea why they don't have a young Quarterback on the roster.  With Roethlisberger and Leftwich in their 30's having a 37 year old to back them up is kind of ridiculous. Get a young guy in there to learn the offense. They dropped the ball with Dixon, and now are going with a guy because he knows the offense. I normally don't question the moves the Steelers make, but this one just is dumb in my mind. Bad move.

Changing of the Guard

I knew this day would come.

Hines Ward, Aaron Smith, and James Farrior could only play for the Steelers for so long. I don't have to like, but the time has come. Those guys played their asses off for the Steelers and will be remembered as some of the greats.

I'm about half hoping everyone passes on Hines Ward and the Steelers can bring him back at the veteran minimum for one more season so he can retire a Steeler. If he plays for another team next year it'll just be wrong.

Farrior, he's slowed down a lot this past season, but at 37 the guy had a great season, great career. At this point he's eating up a roster spot.

Smith, really sucks he's had injury issues the past few seasons. I could have seen him playing a little while longer. Rotating on the line while the younger defensive lineman gain some experience.

I'm sure there will be more, but these guys were just stalwarts at their respected positions.

Happy Trails. You'll be missed.

Don't want this drama

Hines Ward entering the final year in his contract with the Steelers and it looks like the Steelers are going to cut him for salary reasons. If Hines wants to play one more year, bring him back Pittsburgh. Just make sure you let him know, he's not coming back after next season. He deserves to retire as a Steeler, if he decides to play after next season well, one he's dumb and two that's his choice to not retire as a Steeler.

He's earned that right, don't take it away from him.
